English Teacher

Position Title: English Teacher - CALI Partner Schools (CPS)

Location: Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo

Reports To: CPS Manager

Summary:

CALI is expanding its impact across Kinshasa through the CALI Partner Schools program, whereby we partner with local schools to provide high quality English language instruction that facilitates student’s ability to rapidly develop practical communication skills. Our team has a strong culture of mutual support, curiosity, energetic teaching, and a concern for each individual student. We believe that our CPS teachers’ impact on students will have a positive impact on them and their communities for years to come and we are looking for teachers with progressive, teachable, and humble attitudes to join us.

Each CPS Teacher will be responsible for teaching English to students and providing support to existing English programs in a local maternal, primary, secondary, or post-secondary school in Kinshasa using CALI's methods and curriculum. The teacher will be trained by CALI and receive ongoing administrative support and opportunities for professional development.

Please note, this is a contractual position and selected teachers will enter into teaching contracts to provide the services described herein.

Selected applicants will be invited to attend a free multi-day training session at CALI’s campus in Gombe which will run continuously throughout August. Those who demonstrate the necessary qualifications during the training session will be offered teaching positions. Successful completion of the training session is mandatory for all teachers.

Deadline:

Though we are always looking to recruit and train the best teachers in Kinshasa, we have an immediate need to hire new teachers and train them in time for the commencement of the new school year in September and October. The application for this opportunity is August 18, 2023.

Core responsibilities:

  • Teach English to students using CALI's methods and curriculum
  • Train existing English teachers and administration in the partner schools on CALI's curriculum and methods
  • Participate in CALI's professional development activities
  • Master the use of classroom presentation technologies
  • Collaborate with other CPS teachers at your assigned partner school to advance student success
  • Report to and receive support from CALI’s leadership and administrative staff
  • Represent CALI and “the CALI way” in the partner schools and the community

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in English or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience teaching English
  • Experience with using technology in the classroom
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn from others and seek continual personal improvement
  • Encouraging and positive classroom presence
  • Fluency in English
